Mirador del Río
The Mirador del Rio (Del Rio Viewpoint) is at the summit of the Risco de Famara, next to the Corona Volcano (Volcán de la Corona). At 500m in altitude, it is found in the north of Lanzarote. From the top of the viewpoint, you can get the best views on Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
The building is unique in the sense that it barely perceptible from the outside, blending in perfectly with the stone surroundings. Outside the building, a huge iron figure in the shape of a fish and bird stands as a welcome, representing the water and air that characterise the landscape from the viewpoint.
Inside the Viewpoint
Upon entering the building, we find the main room of the facility where we are met with two large windows, known as the eyes of the viewpoint, which not only allow us to enjoy the majestic views from an enviable location, but also bathe the room in light.
From here, we can also access an enormous balcony that is built across the abyss.
The best views in Lanzarote
From Mirador del Río you can see the spectacular Risco de Famara and the curious Salinas de Janubio.
But the undeniable main characters are the small islands that make up the Chinijo Archipelago: Roque del Oeste, Montaña Clara, Alegranza, Roque del Este, and the only inhabited island, La Graciosa.
Close to Mirador del Río
A visit to Mirador del Rio is perfectly complemented by discovering the wonderful hidden gems in the north of Lanzarote. It appears as though nature has conspired to create them all in the same area.
The Jameos del Agua and the Cueva de los Verdes are very close to the viewpoint and it would be a crime to not visit them. For those looking for tranquillity, you’ll find it in the villages of Arrieta and Punta Mujeres, by walking through its streets and visiting its coves, as well as its excellent restaurants.
Also make sure you don’t miss the magnificent beaches in the north, in particular the superb ones near Arrieta, with the whitest sand in all of Lanzarote.
